#FeatureFriday #TMG – A Closer Look
This week, TMG’s featured post goes to MusiCares, an organization that is referred to as “the Red Cross for the music community.” It is an arm of the Recording Academy that provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need and offers a variety of services and resources that cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies in privacy and confidentiality.
The organization also focuses the resources and attention of the music industry on human service issues that directly impact the health and welfare of the music community.
We had the opportunity to see MusiCares at work in the field this past weekend at Electric Daisy Carnival New York. The organization teamed up with ACS Custom to provide artists and industry workers alike a custom hearing protection fitted and made at no cost. We even had our very own artist Mike Saint-Jules and marketing coordinator Giuliana Napolitano fitted!
In 1989, The Recording Academy founded the MusiCares Foundation as a way to invest in the future of music and to “take care of music’s creators on a very fundamental, human level,” says Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. MusiCares has been all about giving back, and musicians supporting each other in a communal way. In the aftermath of Katrina alone, following the devastation of the hurricane, MusiCares moved fast to distribute more than $4 million in financial assistance to working musicians in the area.

In 2016 alone, the organization hit a milestone of assisting nearly 5,000 members of the music community in a single year. Overall, they have provided life-changing aid to tens of thousands of creative people. The electronic music industry is fortunate to have such an organization backing their music, artists and workers!
