This week we take a closer look at the company Runkeeper and how they have built a global network of people who share the common goal of living a healthier lifestyle.

Runkeeper is a leading mobile running app that helps people of all fitness levels get out the door and stick with running forever. It lets you easily track workouts, set goals, incorporate music into your daily workout routine, connect with a community and stay motivated. Their mission is simple, get the whole world running!

Runkeeper was one of the first apps to launch on the newly developed App Stores in 2008. Today Runkeeper has over 50 million users across more than 180 countries! The apps’ key features enable users to track activities in real time while also monitoring progress against long-term goals. The app offers guidance through training plans and data insights and keeps users motivated with exciting challenges, rewards and easy social sharing.

It offers detailed running history, including stats, photos and maps from all activities. Some other exciting features include: Running Groups, In-Run Audio Cues, Custom Interval Workouts and Spotify Integration.  With an additional subscription service you are given even more flexibility with the technology allowing for maximum control over yours and other’s workouts if you are a trainer. runkeepersingle-800x355

But the technology is only the half of it.  Recognizing the challenges involved in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and consistent physical activity, Runkeeper chose to build a conversation and support system with the app as its backbone. Utilizing their international network, Runkeeper also looked to develop their partnerships with exciting brands and some of its users that boast a global outreach themselves.

Most recently, Runkeeper has partnered with the headphones brand Skullcandy to promote music alongside physical activity. Users that run in certain markets using Runkeeper on Tuesdays, will receive a $10 discount to Skullcandy headphones Wednesday. To add excitement and relevance to the campaign, each Monday of the campaign a weekly curated playlist is put together by one of the professional athletes Skullcandy works with. Over the last year, Runkeeper has put a focus on improving their Spotify presence by curating a weekly running playlist on their Spotify channel.  Runkeeper continues to partner with brands and celebrities to constantly keep their users engaged and looking forward to running.   This gives users more reason to stay motivated.   Knowing their hard work can be rewarded and seeing some of your favorite celebrities making their own efforts to stay healthy, allows for any person to be a part of something much larger than themselves.
